Learning Outcome #5&6
I felt like project #3 best showed my ability to correctly implement MLA format to cite sources. I liked this paper in particularly because we got to work hand on with sources from a website, and Michale Pollans New York Times Essay, “Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch”. There were several times throughout my essay where I cited sources. The Michael Pollan Essay was cited correctly using MLA format by first giving context about the source I was using and introducing Michael Pollan to the readers. From there I put quotations around the quote I chose to use from the essay. I made sure to add the page number as well as the last name of the author at the end. When introducing the essay I also italicized the title, because it is a title of a magazine. I was also tasked with citing student websites. For this project I used three separate papers, from three different students for sources. The way I would site these is I would pull a quote from the article and add quotes to it. After that, similar to citing an essay at the end of the quote I would add the last name of the student, as well as the number page I found it. Another aspect that showed a correct way of citing in MLA was my work cited page a the end of my essay. A work cited page is an extremely important part of an essay. This is an aspect I missed on my project #2. The way I cited it was by alphabetical order on the last page on my essay. For the Pollan essay the way it was cited was the authors name, then the title of the article in question. After that the city where it was published then the title of the magazine I got it from. For the student papers I put the name of the student’s paper I used, the title of the paper, the name of the course, and the date I accessed their website.
